With many regulars traveling, working, or ill, one uncertain about his availability, another on call, and a number of guests unavailable, there was doubt up until that evening about the game even happening. When it did, the results were unprecedented. After five players, including four regulars, played for four hours, Speed and your Padre (aka Racer X) were tied for first at only three up, the Killer was two down, and the biggest losers, the Intimidator and Our Guest were tied at just three down. The Mach 5 edged out Racer X for first when Speed collected a two dollar derelict pot, and the derelict hand edge for Mitch made the loser's trophy irrelevant. It was raw racing excitement and a beautiful night on the deck.
